Global Transition in the Time of Crisis

Sustainability Day for first-year Master’s students

There is a growing concern in the public sector as well as in the business community and the general public that the transition towards a low carbon economy and more inclusive societies isn’t going fast enough. However, the vision manifested by the Sustainable Development Goals provide a global roadmap for stakeholders to engage in this transition, and important governmental and business sector actors are starting to respond. The EU is aiming high with the Green Deal presented in 2019, which overarching objective is for the EU to become the first climate neutral continent by 2050, resulting in a cleaner environment, more affordable energy, smarter transport, new jobs and an overall better quality of life.

To achieve the goals set by the European Green Deal, the Commission has pledged to mobilise at least €1 trillion in sustainable investments over the next decade. Around 30% of the EU’s multiannual budget (2021-2028) and the EU’s unique NextGenerationEU (NGEU) instrument to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, has been allocated for green investments.

During your first week on Campus, you are provided this valuable opportunity to engage in conversation about opportunities of a much more rapid sustainability transition and development. The Sustainability Day includes discussion with prominent speakers about the transition to a low carbon economy and the role of business and policy in this much-needed transition.

Date: August 30
Time: 13:00-16:00 CET
