Short description

The purpose of this study is to investigate what status means for professionals in low-status occupations. Through a selection of such professions, different approaches will be described and explained. Do people's strategies and adaptations to professional status result in pride, shame, indifference or resistance? Is there a change of profession or other compensatory strategies? What aspects are listed as significant in comparisons with other occupational groups? The explanations must be related to such social circumstances as e.g. specific experiences, working conditions, gender, age and ethnicity.
