User friendly tool manage blood pressure

One problem with treating hypertension is getting the patient to adhere. There is a need for user friendly tools that help patients' understand how blood pressure, wellbeing and life style are interconnected. But what should it look like?

Ulrika Bengtsson is a public health specialist nurse and currently a PhD-student in Health and Care Sciences, GPCC-project Autonomy in medication with a mobile phone self-report system.

A group of GPCC researchers in the MIHM-project (Mobile Phones in Hypertension Management) are on their way to designing a tool. In a recent study, Ulrika Bengtsson , Karin Kjellgren, Stefan Höfer, Charles Taft and Lena Ring used cognitive interviews to test how patients understand an interactive mobile phone self-report system.

The test showed that the mobile system is reliable and easy to use and contains relevant information. In another article Inger Hallberg et al described the phases in the development process and further in another paper by Ranerup and Hallberg the actors in the development process and their intentions are described from an ethnographic perspective.

The first part of the study was published in Blood Pressure in February 2014.
