University of Gothenburg condemns encroachments on higher education in Turkey
After the failed coup attempt in Turkey, the Turkish government has implemented a series of procedures that threaten freedom of expression as well as academic freedom in the country. Among other things, 1577 Deans have been dismissed. Gothenburg University strongly condemns these procedures to higher education and expresses its deep support for the academic community in Turkey at this difficult time.
Freedom of expression and academic freedom are fundamental and cornerstones for research and higher education, and values that must always be safeguarded. Gothenburg University is deeply concerned about this development and agrees with the statements made by the EUA, Scholars at Risk and The Magna Charta Observatory below.
