The Board of the University of Gothenburg decided on Tuesday to propose to the Swedish Government that Pam Fredman should be appointed Vice-Chancellor from 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2017.

The Board’s decision came after a clear majority of the advisory council gave Professor Fredman their continued confidence as Vice-Chancellor earlier in the day.

“The University of Gothenburg has experienced positive development with Pam Fredman as Vice-Chancellor,” says Cicci Schelin Seidegård, Chairman of the Board of the University of Gothenburg. “Our Vision 2020 has been drawn up, and we now have a new organisation. Pam has been a driving force in this work, which is now entering a consolidation phase. The fact that the board’s proposal has also received the support of the advisory council is pleasing, and is important in terms of the University’s continued development.”

The advisory council, which convened during the morning, voted on Professor Fredman’s continued appointment in a secret ballot. The members voted on the following proposal:

The Board of the University proposes that Pam Fredman should be appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gothenburg for the period from 1 July 2015 until 30 June 2017. Do you support this proposal?

Forty-seven members voted yes, 9 voted no, 3 cast blank votes and 8 abstained from voting.

This means that 70 percent of the 67 members summoned to the advisory council voted to give Pam Fredman their continued confidence as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gothenburg up until the middle of 2017. Following a proposal from the Board of the University, the Vice-Chancellor is then formally appointed by the Swedish Government.
