Published

Sami Adwan, vice president and associate professor at Hebron University, has been appointed 2016 visiting professor in memory of Torgny Segerstedt at the University of Gothenburg and will serve at the Faculty of Education.

Adwan has long focused on issues related to democracy and the co-existence of groups on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He is a well-known and established researcher with many contacts at universities in the EU, Scandinavia and the US, where he has worked as both visiting researcher and lecturer.

Bridging divides

Sami Adwan has also served within the framework of international organisations such as UNESCO. His work to bridge divides and make people in opposing groups, in particular adolescents, trust each other has attracted international attention among researchers and democracy advocates.

Adwan will hold the visiting professorship at the Department of Education, Communication and Learning until the end of the 2016/2017 school year.

‘Sami Adwan is both broad and specialised in relation to our work and we believe he will contribute to many interesting activities. His outreach experiences are very valuable, which will be useful in his discussions with our researchers, teachers and students,’ says Åke Ingerman, dean of the Faculty of Education, in a comment.
