As a participant, you will have the chance to meet your academic institution’s partners, make new contacts, and participate in seminars and workshops. You will also have the opportunity to network with representatives both for new and specialized academic institutions and for traditional comprehensive universities from nearly every continent.
Managing global challenges
The conference is being held at the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Center in the centre of the city. The theme for EAIE 2021 is “Bolder. Braver. Go.” It’s a challenge for everyone in higher education to dare to make bold decisions to manage the global challenges we face like climate change and sustainability issues.
This theme was not chosen by accident. The city has been working hard to transition to more sustainable solutions. Gothenburg has been ranked first in the Global Destination Sustainability Index for four years in a row, and in 2020 the European Commission named Gothenburg the European Capital of Smart Tourism.
The sustainable University
Sustainable development is also a focus for the University of Gothenburg. The University has a significant research initiative where six interdisciplinary research centres are taking on today’s global societal challenges. In the last two years, the University has been ranked highly in the Times Higher Education’s ranking of the world’s universities based on the global sustainability development objectives.
With its location near the sea, the University of Gothenburg is also strong in marine research and one of Europe’s most comprehensive environments for marine research and education. Other issues that we prioritise are gender equality, democracy, ageing, and learning. Our welcome programme for international students is ranked at the top in Europe, and we have Sweden’s only triple accredited School of Business, Economics and Law.
