Kristineberg Center for Marine Research and Innovation

Together, University of Gothenburg, Chalmers, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, RISE and Municipality of Lysekil are running the research and innovation plattform Kristineberg Center.

Research and innovation for sustainable blue economy

Kristineberg Center for Marine Research and Innovation is physically located at Kristineberg Marine Research Station, run by the University of Gothenburg. With the new partnership, Kristineberg Center, the station opens for new actors and will offer advanced marine infrastructure, testbeds and settings for demonstrations for businesses, entrepreneurs and the public sectors. The partnership also offers additional possibilities for researchers to participate in strategic national initiatives and research projects for a sustainable blue economy.

Our services

Through the partnership the center offers:

Test and verification
At Kristineberg, there are unique marine test environments both in our laboratories, at sea, and on land. We offer organisations access to test facilities, equipment, laboratories, ships, and test services. We can help with everything from applying for a permit to installing, monitoring, checking, and verifying tests.

National co-creation
Our keywords are: unite, strengthen and complement. We gather actors from academia, business, and the public sector for strategic initiatives at the national level in international collaboration. We run co-creative activities to initiate new solutions based on societal challenges, needs, and opportunities. Our activities result in everything from new broad initiatives to innovation or research projects.

Unique opportunities for research
With the proximity to Gullmarsfjorden's species-rich marine ecosystem, a unique research environment has been developed for more than 140 years. As a researcher, you get access to well-equipped laboratories, advanced instruments, historical data, ships, diving equipment, restaurants, and accommodation.

Education and learning
Kristineberg is a resource for education and skills development in several marine disciplines and technologies. We offer excellent opportunities for activities both in the field and in the lab.

Innovation support
Our network includes both national and international actors who offer everything from innovation and business support, design and manufacturing, to establishment and marketing. If you have an exciting idea, feel free to contact us.
