Digital Open House at HDK-Valand

Welcome to Open House at HDK-Valand and meet representatives and student alumni on October 27th 2022. The event will be held entirely online on Zoom, in English and the focus of the day is on our international educations. See more details in each subject below.

The master’s programme in Design views design as an expanded practice that investigates how design can contribute to contemporary questions relating to society, culture, technology, and politics. Rather than specializing on a specific medium, our aim is to outline urgent fields, identify relevant questions, and explore how design skills can contribute in a meaningful way.

The unique master’s programme in Child Culture Design explores the relationship between design and children’s perspectives. The activity play is central. As a student of the programme, you will develop projects for and with children and practice how to utilize multidisciplinary research and knowledge in your design projects. The master’s programme in Photography offers you the opportunity to develop your already existing photographic practice, your visual literacy, and your own creativity. In a critical and generous dialogue with teachers and fellow students, you will formulate your work in different contexts and have the possibility to present your work in public venues, school galleries, and printed matter. The programme provides analogue labs and digital workshops as well as a critical and theoretical environment.

The master’s programme in Embedded Design encourages you to critically reflect upon your role as an embedded designer and meet the growing demand for innovative and disruptive design. The programme prepares you to follow both conventional and unconventional design careers, able to work as a collaborative partner while actively taking a critical stance and disrupting the status quo.

This session introduces the MFA Fine Art Programme. You will e-meet representatives of its teaching team: artist and curator Jason E. The international master’s programme in Fine Art will prepare you to make critical artistic contributions in the public sphere. Courses focus on the many challenges that face us in being public together and on debates over the roles artists can have in producing publicness. You will explore these themes via the development of artistic research practices.

The master’s programme in Applied Arts and Design challenges how you perceive materials and space with three specializations: metal art, textile–body–space, and wood-oriented furniture design. You will develop critical perspectives in relation to society and current debates while pursuing your own projects in a hands-on and explorative process.

As a student specializing in textile–body–space, you will take part in study trips, workshops, exhibitions, seminars, and lectures and reflect on your future role as an artist.

Introduction to the MFA in Film programme: Teaching staff, students and alumni will give a short introduction to the programme, and answer questions about studying film at HDK-Valand. Hosted by Mirka Duijn, Senior Lecturer in Film

The programme facilitates creative practices in film by exploring its connections to theory.
