Drawing on evidence from a variety of documentary historical sources, this presentation will discuss the past climate of Iceland during the period ca. AD 1500 to 1800. Particular emphasis will be placed on variations in the sea ice that was a frequent visitor to the coasts of Iceland during this period. Climate and sea-ice impacts on Icelandic society during this period will also be noted.
