By bringing together researchers and practitioners from institutions across Sweden, this conference will discuss contributions handed in and presented by Sweden based researchers working on topics related to the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region. To do so, there will be several panels and roundtables held, and plenty of opportunities to network and discuss future collaborations.

SWEMENA Conference 2022 - Building Networks across Sweden, the Middle East and North Africa

SWEMENA stands for The Swedish Middle East and North Africa Network - a network funded by The Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI).  The SWEMENA Conference mirrors the organization's main cause: to bring together different communities of researchers, practitioners and policymakers across Sweden with an interest in the Middle East and North Africa region.

The SWEMENA network was initiated just a few months before the Covid-19 pandemic started and has not yet been able to host events in person. Therefore, this conference hopes to bring all members and potential new members to meet and network in person for the first time.

The Conference is organized by members of the SWEMENA Steering Committee:
Dylan O'Driscoll - Stockholm International Peace Research Institute
Ellen Lust - The Program on Governance and Local Development (GLD)
Isabell Schierenbeck -  School of Global Studies (SGS)
Josepha Wessels - School of Arts and Communication, Malmö University
Karin Aggestam - Centre for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies, Lund University
Paul T. Levin - Stockholm University Institute for Turkish Studies, Stockholm University
Rouzbeh Parsi - The Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI)

SWEMENA Coordinator:
