Parents in rural areas function as "gatekeepers" for cultural education when they enable their children to attend cultural activities such as painting- and music lessons or theater projects over long distances. What challenges do parents precisely face in enabling their children to participate in cultural education in rural areas?
Within the project we lead qualitative interviews with parents in four different rural areas in Germany about their demands and their perception of cultural education. We focus on the different perceptions of cultural education, different pictures of rural areas and different concepts of parenthood in relation to the socio-economic conditions of the interviewed parents.
