Arguments for considering a notion of person-centeredness and performing person-centred care is increasingly being articulated internationally in nursing and across health care fields. However, while the notion of targeting the patient and family members as individuals is familiar to the nursing and most health care disciplines, there has been a lack of concrete strategies and actions for how to accomplish person-centred care that explicitly build upon, or could be related to, a philosophical foundation. Personhood and the idea of person-centeredness – and other thoughtful ideas from our predecessors – need to be reconsidered and re-examined in relation to current societal challenges and health care structures. Thus, philosophical perspectives on person-centeredness can be applied with potential to contribute to furthering the understanding, applications, explorations and inquiries as related to philosophy of nursing.
The 24th International Philosophy of Nursing Conference to be hosted by the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, invites contributions that inquire notions of personhood and person-centeredness as related to nursing and healthcare, and links as well as conflicts between philosophy and person-centred practice.
The conference is hosted by the Institute of Health and Care Sciences, the department organizing research and educational programmes at all levels related to nursing at the University of Gothenburg, and hosting the University of Gothenburg Centre for Person-centred Care (GPCC). The conference will be held in English.
