About Thomas Barow

Research In my research, I am dealing with special and inclusive education in a pedagogical, didactical, social and historical perspective, both nationally and internationally. Recently I conducted research on SEN assessment and categorisation processes in Sweden and Germany. In two new projects, I study a) education of children with intellectual disability in inclusive settings in Sweden, and b) postsecondary education for persons with intellectual disability. In my previous research work I took up, inter alia, the transition from school to working life both in Sweden and internationally. In my dissertation and the following historical studies, I focused on the so-called “care of the feeble-minded” in Sweden. My CV including a list of publications can be found below. Since 2011, I have been the convener of the network 12 Inclusive Education as a part of the Nordic Educational Research Association (NERA/NFPF). In the University of Gothenburg, I am associated research leader of the Platform for Research in Inclusive Education and School Development (PRIS).

Teaching I am teaching and supervising foremost in the special education programmes (second cycle). In this context, I am in charge for two courses: the master thesis course and one specialisation course for teacher students in the field of intellectual disability. Moreover, I gained comprehensive experiences in various teacher education programmes and in disability studies.
