About Sebastian Westenhoff

Sebastian completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge in 2006 on energy transfer processes in organic semiconductors. After an additional year as a junior research fellow in Sir R. Friend's group at Cambridge, he arrived in Sweden in 2007 to investigate conformational dynamics of membrane proteins.

In 2011 he became independent, with funding provided through an Assistant Professorship position sponsored by the Swedish Research Council, a 'Future Research Leader' research award from the Swedish Foundation of Strategic Research, and a Starting Grant from the European Research Council. The goal of Sebastian's research activities is to explore molecular structural dynamics. His highly specialized team are working to decipher the molecular workings of photoreceptor proteins using time-resolved X-ray scattering and crystallography, in collaboration with a range of national and international researchers (see also www.westenhofflab.net).
