About Mikael Bernardini
Doctoral student in Criminal Law.
Main supervisor: Sara Stendahl.
My research focuses on the Swedish criminal punishment system and how it has developed during the last decades. The development will be related to questions regarding poverty, the general societal development and growing inequality. The relation is of interest since poverty tends to be punished harder from a freedom restricting perspective. I will more specifically focus on selection mechanisms during the process of choosing sentence and mainly investigate latent functions created by these mechanisms. This will create a basis for a theoretical understanding of the development and a theory about the neoliberal state and its functions.
The theoretical perspective of main interest is Marxist theory. Method of interest for my research is theoretical socio-legal method.
I teach Criminal Law at the LL.M. Programme and Bachelor of Science Programme in Social Work.
