Department of Literature, History of Ideas, andAbout John Joel Duncan
I received my PhD in English in 2017 from the University of Notre Dame with my dissertation The Song in the Machine: Organic Forms of American Poetry. I am currently working on a book project funded by the Swedish Research Council entitled "Poetic Drive: Experimental American Poetry in the Age of Automobility." This project elaborates how American poets and artists have used the car to craft experimental works that engage social conflicts around whiteness, masculinity, and ecology. I have published or have forthcoming articles in Modernism/modernity, Arizona Quarterly, and Textual Practice. I have a broad experience in teaching both literature and academic writing, and am currently a part-time Lecturer at HDK-Valand where I work with design students and faculty on writing across the curriculum.
