Research interests My research interest is in the sociology of education, and I have studied issues involving the effects of free schools on student learning. Studies of the importance of teacher competence and the meaning of teacher competence are also research interests, as is the impact of home background on student achievement.
Teaching interests I teach and supervise on effects of teacher competence and social background on student achievement. I also teach on assessment and evaluation at different levels of the school system.
