Scholars at risk is an international network of more than 300 higher education institutions in 35 countries dedicated to promoting academic freedom and to defending the human rights of scholars worldwide. This seminar includes a presentation of the network and the activities with a following discussion about the possibility to start a Swedish section.
Since the network's launch 10 years ago, more than 400 scholars have found sanctuary and hundreds more have benefitted from other services. Scholars at Risk also work to prevent attacks on higher education communities and to promote academic freedom through monitoring and advocacy, workshops, training, and a speaker series. These activities aim to target the root causes of intellectual repression and to promote systemic change. In Europe Scholars at Risk has national sections in Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway and the UK. A Scholars at Risk - Swedish section would represent Sweden in the wider Scholars at Risk network, organizing and coordinating Scholars at Risk activities in Sweden. As a first step in this direction Higher Education institutions from Sweden are invited to this meeting to learn more about the Scholars at Risk network and how to get involved.
Föreläsare: Speakers will include Scholars at Risk staff (Sinead O'Gorman), a representative from Scholars at Risk - Norway Section (Marit Egner, University of Oslo) and a scholar who was recently assisted by the network.
