CARe - Antibiotic Resistance Research

CARe is an interdisciplinary effort to meet the development of antibiotic resistance. The research centre will primarily focus on a crucial threat: multi-resistant carbapenamase producing enterobacteriaceae (CPE).

Infections with these bacteria are threatening the very basis of modern medicine and are often considered the greatest antibiotic resistance threat on the horizon.

Expertise from six different faculties at the University of Gothenburg connect at the centre, and together with the health care sector and business sector competence is brought together to meet this global societal challenge.

The research has six main themes:

  • Diagnostics
  • Surveillance
  • Transmission
  • Environmental pollution
  • Interventions
  • Therapeutics

Besides research, CARe will also develop aid in education relating to antibiotic resistance and to disseminate knowledge both within and outside the academia.
