Abstract

This text was commissioned to be the opening key note speech on the international AEC conference for Music Academy leaders from all over the world in November 2016. The theme was given to be Diversity, Identity and Inclusion. The text approaches and freely moves around the three themes from the perspective of music itself- and from the perspective of the young art student. Personal reflexions and experience-based knowledge from the fields of improvised music as well as quotes underline the thoughts. The key note speech was opened by a solo improvisation over the Argentinian song Alfonsina y el mar, played by myself on double bass. The speech, with some spontaneous additions since the memorial annual day of the terrorist attack at concert hall Bataclan in Paris occurred the same day as the speech was held, had the length of 45 minutes.
