TERESA LAGERGÅRD - born in Sosnowiec, Poland in 1946 graduated from Warsaw University and the University of Gothenburg. In 1982 received degree of PhD at the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, Medical Faculty, University of Gothenburg with thesis entitled: Antibodies to Haemophilus influenzae and their bactericidal activity. In 1985 senior lecturer (docent) at the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology and in 1999 employed as professor in vaccine research. During 1988-1989 post-doc and 2005 and 2006 visiting scientist at the NIH, NICHD Bethesda, Maryland USA. Scientific experience and research interests: Bacterial Pathogenesis, toxins and polysaccharides, Infection and immunity, Vaccine development and vaccine evaluation.

Landén Mikael - Sahlgrenska Academy at University of Gothenburg, Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology - Mikael Landén was born in Gothenburg in 1966 and obtained his medical degree and specialist qualification in psychiatry in Gothenburg. He defended his doctoral thesis in 1999 and from 2002 to 2003 was a postdoctoral fellow at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, University of Pittsburgh, USA. He became associate professor in psychiatry at the University of Gothenburg and at Karolinska Institutet in 2004. He has been visiting professor of psychiatric epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet since 2009. In January of the same year he was appointed Professor of Psychiatry at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry. His post combines academic work with the clinical role of consultant psychiatrist at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Landgren Johannes - Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, Academy of Music and Drama JOHANNES LANDGREN – born in Arjeplog in 1961 – studied at the School of Music in Gothenburg from where he graduated as a musical director and choir teacher. Defended his thesis in 1997 on Petr Eben’s organ music at the Department of Musicology at the University of Gothenburg. Over the years he has been extensively involved in performing concerts throughout the world, made some twenty CD recordings and received several international and national awards and recognitions as organist and choral conductor. He is currently head of postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, professor in organ and organ improvisation at the Academy of Music and Drama as well as performing a large number of concerts. Appointed from 1 April 2006 as professor in organ and improvisation.

Research fields are Turner syndrome, polycystic ovary syndrome, osteoporosis and the link between cardiovascular disease and bone.

STEFAN LANGE, born in Stockholm in 1948, completed his medical degree at the University of Gothenburg in 1973 and became a registered doctor in 1977. He completed his doctorate in 1979 with a thesis on Immunological Properties of Cholera Toxin: Studies on Protective Immunogenicity and Other Immunomodulating Effects in Mice, and was made an associate professor in medical microbiology in 1980. Professor of Clinical Bacteriology at the University of Gothenburg from 1 October 2005. The appointment also entails a position as senior consultant at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Birgitta Lannering was born in Uppsala and graduated in medicine and received her specialist qualification at the University of Gothenburg. She was awarded her PhD in 1989 and became reader in paediatrics in 2001. She is a consultant and clinical researcher at the Children’s Cancer Centre at the Queen Silvia Children’s Hospital. Since 1 June 2008 she has held tenure as professor of paediatric oncology in the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. This appointment is combined with a post as senior consultant at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Håkan Larsson was born in Lidköping and was awarded his master’s degree in economics by the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg in 1970. He was employed in the Wilson Group in Gothenburg in 1971 and was president of the company during the period 1983–1985, when he moved to the Bilspedition group to assume responsibility for its operations in Sweden. Between 1990 and 1999 Håkan Larsson was president of Bilspedition. When Bilspedition was acquired in 1999 by the German haulage group Schenker, he was first appointed to head its European operations and then made president of the group at its head office in Germany. From 2003 to 2007 Håkan Larsson was the president of the shipping company Rederi AB Transatlantic. Today he is a member of a number of boards, among them Bure, Chalmers University of Technology, the Ernström group, Schenker, Semcon, Stolt-Nielsen, Transatlantic, and Wallenius Lines. Since 1 October 2008 he has been guest professor in applied business administration in the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg.

Professor Lekholm started his scientific career within the filed of oral cancer research, where he studied how the resistance of the oral mucosa towards carcinogenic substances could be altered by changing the lipid content of the epithelial cell membranes. The research was mainly performed in rat models, in which the lipid changes were induced either via diet manipulation or induced liver cirrhosis. After joining the research team around professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark in 1978, professor Lekholm has mainly been involved in scientific work focusing on factors associated with the integration of titanium implants and has thereby participated in many of the projects that have established the fundaments of how oral implant surgery has to be done in order to result in successful long-term clinical results.

Ulf Lindblad was born in Skövde, graduated from the school of medicine at the University of Gothenburg in 1975 and received a specialist qualification in family medicine in 1982. He was awarded his PhD in 1993 at Lund University and held a postdoctoral post at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) 1995-1996. He was appointed associated professor (docent) of family medicine at Lund University in 2001 and professor in 2005. Since 1 December 2008 he has held tenure as professor of family medicine in the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg.
This appointment is combined with a post as general practitioner at the Kungshöjd Clinic in Gothenburg.

Lindén Anders - The Sahlgrenska Academy, Dept of Internal Medicine ANDERS LINDÉN – born in Malmö in 1961 – earned his medical degree at the University of Gothenburg in 1988 and acquired specialist expertise in lung- and allergy diseases at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. He defended his thesis in 1992 at the University of Gothenburg in A non-adrenergic, non-cholinergic stabilizing mechanism in the neural regulation of airway smooth-muscle tone. During 1993-1995 he undertook postdoctoral work in experimental lung medicine at the Cardiovascular Research Institute, University of California, San Francisco and in 1998 he became senior lecturer in experimental lung medicine. During 2004 he was visiting researcher at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Appointed from 1 October 2006 as professor in lung medicine. The position is combined with the post of chief physician at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
Linderholm Hans - Faculty of Science, Dept of Earth Sciences HANS LINDERHOLM Born: 1968 Title of thesis: Temporal and spatial couplings between tree-ring variability and climate in Scandinavia Hans Linderholm was born in Stockholm and defended his thesis on tree rings and climate in Scandinavia at Stockholm University in 2001. After one year at CIRC in Abisko, he came to the University of Gothenburg, where he became Associate Professor in 2005. In connection with the opening of the Sino-Swedish Centre for Tree-Ring Research, he became a Honorary Professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2008. In 2009 he was awarded the research prize of the Faculty of Science for his work on palaeoclimatology. He was appointed Professor of Physical Geography at the Department of Earth Sciences on 9 June 2009.

Lennart Lindfors was born in Landskrona in 1961. A degree of Master of Science in Engineering was conferred on him in 1988 at Chalmers University of Technology. He got his doctorate in 1993 in Physical Chemistry and between 1993 and 1994 worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, San Francisco. After his return, he has been employed at AstraHässle where he has worked with helicobacter pylori-vaccine, nanoparticles and molecular simulation. On 1 June 2007 he was appointed Adjunct Professor of Physical Chemistry at the Faculty of Science at the University of Gothenburg.

Det svenska sjukförsäkringssystemets utveckling 1900-1990 (From voluntary sickness insurance funds to state welfare bureaucracy. The development of the Swedish system of health insurance 1900-1990). He became senior lecturer in sociology at Umeå University in 1995, and was promoted to professor in the subject in 2000. He has also been professor II in sociology at Bodø University College, Norway, as well as professor in social work at Umeå University from 2002-2006. His research focus is the actors and reforms involved in welfare policy with the emphasis on long-term illness and disabilities. Appointed from 1 August 2006 as professor in social work with the emphasis on social welfare.

Anders Lindseth was born in Bodø, Norway, and studied philosophy in Oslo, Tübingen and Vienna. From 1980 he was a teacher and held a scholarship at the department of philosophy at the University of Tromsø and was also professor of practical philosophy in its section for nursing and health studies. Since 2002 he has been professor in practical knowledge in the Centre for Practical Knowledge at Bodø University College. Since 1 June 2008 he has held a post as adjunct professor in practical knowledge, specialising in the formation of theory in the applied arts, at the School of Design and Crafts in the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts at the University of Gothenburg.

In 2003 he was appointed reader in cariology at the University of Gothenburg. Since 1 May 2008 he has held tenure as professor of cariology in the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. This appointment is combined with a post as dental consultant at the Swedish National Dental Service clinic in Västra Götaland.

Post-graduate studies at UCLA School of Public Health (Masters in Public Health, 1983) and at Cornell University (PhD in Human Nutrition, 1987). Moved to Gothenburg in 1989, Associate Professor in Nutritional Epidemiology 1993, Adjunct professor in Public Health Epidemiology at Nordic School of Public Health 2000 and Professor of Epidemiology at Sahlgrenska Academy 2003. Currently coordinates the FAS EpiLife Center and the Public Health Epidemiology Unit at the Sahlgrenska School of Public Health and Community Medicine. Main research interests in epidemiological aspects of diet and obesity.
Ljungberg Jan, IT Faculty, Dept of Applied Information Technology JAN LJUNGBERG, born in Huddinge in 1956, did a Master’s degree in computational linguistics at the University of Gothenburg. He completed his doctorate in informatics with the thesis From Workflow to Conversation and became an associate professor in 2002. From 1997 to 2002 he was responsible for research in knowledge management at the Viktoria Institute in Göteborg, and from 2002 to 2005 for the doctoral programme in informatics at the School of Business, Economics and Law at Göteborg University. Since November 2005 he is Vice-dean at the IT Faculty with special responsibility for the doctoral programme. Professor of Informatics at the University of Gothenburg from 1 June 2005.

Ljungman Susanne - The Sahlgrenska Academy, Institute of Medicine. SUSANNE LJUNGMAN born in 1942 in Jönköping – earned her medical degree in 1970, specialist degree in nephrology in 1978 and in internal medicine in 1985. She defended her thesis in 1982 at the University of Gothenburg: Renal function, sodium excretion and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system in relation to blood pressure - an epidemiological and physiological study followed by post-doc studies at the Hypertension Center, Cornell Medical Center, New York. She was appointed adjunct professor in nephrology in 2002 and holds a position as a senior consultant at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Her research involves kidney function in hypertension, heart failure, pulmonary disease, and aspects of chronic renal failure. Current main focus is a long-term study of kidney function in hypertension.

Lohmander Anette - The Sahlgrenska Academy, Division of Speech and Language Pathology ANETTE LOHMANDER was born in Vänersborg in 1956. She graduated from the Speech and Language Pathology Programme (SLP) at Karolinska Intitute, Stockholm in 1982. She was employed at Sahlgrenska University Hospital 1885, as university lecturer in 1997, and became the head of the SLP programme at the University of Gothenburg in 2000. Her research has focused on Clefts of the lip and palate, which are among the commonest birth anomalies. The anatomical location of the defect creates problems in feeding, speech, hearing, dental development and facial growth. Communication disability and the distorted facial appearance represent serious barriers to social integration. In 1996 she defended her thesis at the medical faculty, Göteborg University “Speech in children with cleft lip and palate treated with delayed closure of the hard palate” (Talutveckling hos barn med läpp-käk-gomspalt som opererats med sen slutning av hårda gommen). Professor in Speech and Language Pathology from Juli 1st 2007. Her present position is shared between Sahlgrenska Academy and Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Bo Lundbäck was born in Oulu, Finland in 1948 and qualified as a doctor at Umeå University in 1974, defending his thesis on respiratory medicine in 1993. During the seventies and eighties he was a clinician at the Central Hospital in Boden, later becoming a researcher at the National Institute of Occupational Health in Umeå, the National Institute for Working Life in Stockholm/Solna and at Karolinska Institutet. He launched the Obstructive Lung Disease in Northern Sweden (OLIN) research project and led it for 20 years until 2005. He is the coordinator for comparative studies on asthma, allergy and COPD in Sweden, Finland and Estonia, secretary of the European Respiratory Society’s scientific assembly on occupation and epidemiology, and an associate editor of Respiratory Medicine. He has worked at the University of Gothenburg since 2007, being appointed professor of clinical respiratory epidemiology at the Krefting Research Centre in June 2009. In June 2009 he was appointed Professor of Clinical Respiratory Epidemiology research at the Institute of Medicine, in the Department of Internal Medicine.

He participates in several international comparative research projects and networks, e.g. the EurAsian Project on Population and Family History. He was chairman of the 2002 Welfare Policy Board at the Centre for Business and Policy Studies and is a current member of the Science Advisory Board subject group for History/Society and is chairman of the Swedish Economic-Historic Society. Appointed from 1 May 2006 as professor in economic history.
Lundholm Kent - The Sahlgrenska Academy, Dept of Surgery Kent Lundholm – The Sahlgrenska Academy, Department of Surgery. Kent Lundholm was born in Värnamo 1945. MD at Göteborg University 1972 and became specialist in general surgery 1978. PhD at the University of Gothenburg, Department of Surgery 1974 with a thesis on “Skeletal muscle metabolism in cancer disease. A study with special reference to the development of cancer cachexia”. He became associate professor of experimental surgery in 1976 and in general surgery 1979. The research was focused on experimental and clinical nutrition, tumor biology, vascular and oncology surgery. He became professor in general surgery at the University of Gothenburg 1990. This position also entails function as senior consultant at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
Lundin Bengt - Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, Academy of Music and Drama
Bengt Lundin was born in Stockholm in 1945 and he studied music at Stockholm University and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. He has worked as a university lecturer in musical theoretical subjects at the Royal College of Music and at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg since 1974. He has also worked with artistic development, with composition seminars and the Synestesi project, among other things. He also works as a composer and is a member of the Society of Swedish Composers. On 1 December 2007 he was appointed Professor of Music Theory at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts at the University of Gothenburg.

Lycke Nils - The Sahlgrenska Academy,Avd för mikrobiologi och immunologi Professor Nils Lycke, MD, PhD, is the director of MIVAC (Mucosal Immunobiology and Vaccine Center; wwwmivac.se ) at the University of Göteborg, Sweden and head of the Department of Clinical Immunology & Transfusion medicine at the Sahlgren’s University Hospital. He is the principal investigator of several internationally recognized projects focused on Mucosal Immunity and has been the coordinator of several EU-projects. He has published over 165 original peer-reviewed papers and 26 overview articles or book chapters. He has served on many international expert panels on adjuvants and mucosal immunology. Dr Lycke has pioneered the development of mucosal vaccine adjuvants with important contributions to the field in adjuvant construction, basic mechanism of action, vaccine development and assessment of safety and efficacy. The unique patented mucosal adjuvant CTA1-DD was developed by Dr Lycke in the late 1990’s.
