Bartov Mira - Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts
Born: 1975
Mira Bartov was born in Stockholm and grew up in the Nordic Conservatory of Music, which her parents had founded. She studied acting at the Drama Centre London, where Yat Malmgren was one of her teachers. After having worked as stage manager at the Tel Aviv opera house for a year, she returned to Sweden and studied comparative literature, theoretical philosophy and the history of ideas at Stockholm University. She has written and above all translated many librettos for Folkopera, for instance. Between 2002 and 2005 she studied the programme in direction at the University College of Opera in Stockholm. In 2008 she became artistic director of Folkopera in Stockholm. Since 1 January 2009 she has held the post of adjunct professor in musical drama performance in the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts at the University of Gothenburg.
Beckung Eva - The Sahlgrenska Academy - Eva Beckung - The Sahlgrenska Academy - EVA BECKUNG
Title of thesis: Impairments, Disabilities and Handicap in Children with Epilepsy – the application of a new motor and sensory measure Eva Beckung was born in Örebro in 1950 and qualified as a physiotherapist at the University of Gothenburg. She defended her doctoral thesis in 1997 and became reader in physiotherapy in 2003. She has been employed at Sahlgrenska University Hospital since 1985 and now holds the position of Head of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. In December 2009 she was appointed Adjunct Professor of Physiotherapy at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology.

Ben-Menachem Elinor - The Sahlgrenska Academy,Institute for Clinical Neurosciences ELINOR BEN-MENACHEM, MD, PhD, is an Adjunctive Professor of Neurology and Epilepsy. In 30 years of practice, she has contributed significantly to clinical trial programs of recently developed AEDs and vagal nerve stimulation and has also made significant contributions in understanding the mechanisms of action of developing AEDs. She has received the Ambassador for Epilepsy award from the International League Against Epilepsy in 2005. Currently she is involved in collaborative translational studies looking at neurogenesis as a cause for epileptogenesis and how vagus nerve stimulation affects neurogenesis in the hippocampus. In addition she is engaged in phase 2 and 3 studies with antiepileptic drugs. (Nov 2007)

Title of dissertation: Anaphylatoxin formation in trauma and sepsis
Anders Bengtsson was born in Gothenburg. In 1980 a degree of Master of Science in Medicine was conferred on him. He got his doctorate at the University of Gothenburg in 1987 and was appointed docent in 1989. He worked as Visiting Professor at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon, between 1996 - 1997. Today he is employed as Chief Physician in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. On 1 December 2007 he was appointed Adjunct Professor of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg.

CALLE BENGTSSON – professor emeritus, born in Vårgårda in 1934, studied medicine in Gothenburg. After 19 years at the Medical Department of the Sahlgrenska Hospital appointed professor of primary health care in 1985. He started the population study of women in Gothenburg in 1968 and has been responsible for it during its first 30 years of follow-up. His thesis dealt with ischaemic heart disease in women. He was secretary of the Ethics Committee of the University of Gothenburg 1995-2003. Chief Editor of the Scandinavian Journal of Primary Health Care 1996-2003. Since 2001 chairman of the Faculty of emeriti professors of the Sahlgrenska Academy.

Bergfeldt Lennart - The Sahlgrenska Academy, Dept of Molecular and Clinical Medicine Lennart Bergfeldt, who was born in Stockholm 1950, graduated from Karolinska Institutet in 1975 and became specialist in internal medicine and cardiology in 1984. In 1982 he defended his thesis at Karolinska Institutet, “Disturbances of the cardiac conduction system in HLA-B27 associated disease”, and became associate professor in cardiology in 1985. He was the Director of the Arrhythmia Service at Karolinska University Hospital Solna 1997-2004. During 1994-1995 he was visiting professor at Stanford University, USA, and in 2003 he became adjunct professor of cardiology (clinical electrophysiology) at Karolinska Institutet. From September 1 2004 he has been professor of cardiology at Sahlgrenska Academy, and senior consultant at the Department of Cardiology, Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Heart rhythm disturbances constitute the area of research interest, especially mechanistic aspects related to sudden cardiac death and clinical aspects of atrial fibrillation.

Berglin Eva - The Sahlgrenska Academy, Dept of Molecular and Clinical Medicine Eva Berglin (MD, PhD, FETCS) was born 1947 in Gothenburg. She did her medical studies at Gothenburg University and graduated in 1975. She became a specialist in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery in 1982, defended her thesis "Extracorporeal circulation in defibrinogenated dogs" in 1978 and was appointed lecturer (docent) in 1984. During 1988 - 97 she was head of cardiac transplantation at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. The surgical treatment of supraventricular arrhythmias has been another main field of interest, especially the surgical ablation of atrial fibrillation. She was appointed adjunctive professor of Arrhythmia Surgery at the Sahlgrenska Academy in 2001 and presently combines this with her clinical work as senior consultant surgeon at the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Tord Berglund is head of the Periodontal Research Laboratory. He graduated 1978 in Gothenburg and received his certificate as specialist in Periodontics in 1992, the Odont. Dr. degree (PhD) in 1993, the Docent (Associate professor) degree in 1994 and the Professor degree in 2002.
Tord Berglundh has produced more than 140 scientific publications within the field of dental implants, periodontology, immunology, genetics and tissue integration. The studies on implants have included the use of different implant systems, compromised sites and diagnosis/treatment of periimplantitis lesions. Immunohistochemical studies on biopsy material and blood samples from periodontitis susceptible individuals represent one of the major fields of research and include interactions of diseases around teeth and implants.

Bergström Göran - The Sahlgrenska Academy, Dept of Molecular and Clinical Medicine GÖRAN BERGSTRÖM – born in Göteborg in 1964 – earned his medical degree at the University of Gothenburg and his specialist degree in clinical physiology at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. In 1995 he defended his thesis in The renomedullary depressor mechanism and its relation to the renin angiotensin system and nictric oxide. He spent the years 1995–1997 at the Baker Medical Research Institute in Melbourne, Australia as a postdoc. He was made senior lecturer in physiology at the University of Gothenburg in 1998. Professor in cardiovascular research from 1 July 2006. The position is combined with the post of head physician at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Born: 1936
Claes Beyer was born in Gothenburg, took a bachelor’s degree in law at Lund University and also has degrees from Institut de Droit Comparé in Paris and the University of Illinois in the USA. As a law practitioner working for Mannheimer Swartling Advokatbyrå his speciality was commercial law, in particular company law and securities law. From 1978 to 1993 he was secretary to the board of AB Volvo and a co-opted member of the group management team 1978-1990. He has been a member of the Swedish Industry and Commerce Stock Exchange Committee since 1989. He has also acted as an arbitrator and has devoted his time to issues of principle such as the rule of law, corruption etc. and served, for instance, as chairperson of the Institute against Bribery from 2001 to 2007. Since October 2008 he has held tenure as a guest professor in public commercial law, in particular securities law and company law in the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg.

Biel Anders - Faculty of Social Science, Dept of Psychology ANDERS BIEL, born in Lerum in 1948, completed his B.A. at the University of Gothenburg in 1973. He received his Ph.D. in 1983 with a thesis on Children’s Spatial Knowledge of Their Home Environment. He became an associate professor in 1991 and was from 1996 to 2001 a research fellow in the interdisciplinary programme ‘Paths to Sustainable Environment, Behaviour, Organisations, Structures.’ Professor of Psychology at the University of Gothenburg from 1 July 2005.

Billig Håkan - The Sahlgrenska Academy, Dept of Physiology HÅKAN BILLIG, born in Borås in 1955, completed his medical degree at the University of Gothenburg. He received his doctorate at Göteborg University in 1988 with a thesis on Adenosine and Ovarian Function: Studies on Adenosine as Substrate and Receptor Agonist in the Rat Ovary. He became an associate professor in Physiology at the University of Gothenburg in 1991. He was a research fellow at the University of California, San Diego, in 1991 and at Stanford University 1992-1993. He was advisory researcher at the Medical Research Council from 1994 to 2000 and then became a university lecturer at the University of Gothenburg. Since 2004 he has been principal secretary of the Swedish Research Council, the Scientific Council for Medicine. Professor of Cellular Aging and Apoptos at the University of Gothenburg from 1 April 2005.
Birkhed Dowen - The Sahlgrenska Academy, Dept of Cariology Dowen Birkhed is born in 1946 has during 1973-2007 published around 225 scientific articles in international journals (see PubMed) and has been tutor for 30 PhD students (odont dr/lic). He has recently received the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award - Research in Dental Caries Award.

Bjur Hans – Faculty of Science, Conservation HANS BJUR, born in Stockholm in 1944, graduated as an architect at Chalmers University of Technology in 1973, completed his doctorate in 1984 with a thesis on Stadsplanering kring 1900 (Urban Planning around 1900), and was made associate professor in urban planning in 1988. In 1992 he was appointed by the Government to be Professor of Urban Planning at Chalmers (Architecture) where he was Head of Urban Planning 1992-2004 and Dean of the department 1997-2002. In 2002 he was awarded the Royal Institute of Technology Award for Academic Leadership. Professor of Urban Transformations at the University of Gothenburg from 1 March 2005.

Björck Henrik – Faculty of Arts, Dept of Literature, History of Ideas, and Religion HENRIK BJÖRCK, born in Solna in 1961, studied at Uppsala and Stockholm before completing his doctorate at the University of Gothenburg in 1995 with the thesis Teknisk idéhistoria (Technological History of Ideas). He was project leader and research fellow in history of technology at Chalmers University of Technology 1998-2002, and worked in the Department of Philosophy and the History of Technology at the Royal Institute of Technology and at the Center for Public Sector Research at the University of Gothenburg. He became an associate professor in the history of ideas and science in 2004. Professor of History of Ideas and Science at the University of Gothenburg from 1 July 2005.

Björkelund Cecilia - The Sahlgrenska Academy, Dept of Public Health and Community Medicine CECILIA BJÖRKELUND´s research focus is women’s health and preventive interventions, in conjunction with Primary Care clinical studies. She initiated a community intervention research programme on cardiovascular health in women in a West-Swedish community in 1985, with longitudinal follow ups in the 1990’s. She has also participated in other preventive programmes. She has been connected with The Prospective Population Study of Women in Gothenburg since 1992, studying cardiovascular health development in middle aged women, menopausal trends in women including oestrogen use, and association between sleep problems and diabetes and obesity in women as well as associations between working conditions and women’s mood. She became professor in 1999.

Björnsson Einar - The Sahlgrenska Academy, Institute of Medicine EINAR BJÖRNSSON – born in Iceland in 1958 – studied psychology and philosophy at the University of Iceland. He was awarded his medical degree in 1989, a specialist degree in internal medicine in 1994 and in gastroenterology and hepatology in 1995. In 1994 he defended his thesis at the University of Gothenburg in Interdigestive gastrointestinal motility in humans. Studies with special reference to small intestinal peristalsis. He did postdoc in Ann Arbor, Michigan USA, 1996–1997 and in Oxford, England, January–March 2001. Senior lecturer at the University of Gothenburg in 1999. Visiting professor at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, USA, June– August 2006. Appointed as adjunct professor in gastroenterology and hepatology from 1 June 2006.

Blennow Kaj - The Sahlgrenska Academy, Clinical Neurochemistry. Kaj Blennow is head of the research team on “Neurochemical Pathogenesis and Diagnostics” at the Dept. of Clinical Neuroscience, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He has about 350 publications (original research reports and reviews). The major research interests are studies on cerebrospinal fluid biochemical markers the clinical diagnosis of AD and other brain disorders, including methodological aspects of cerebrospinal fluid analyses, genetic mechanisms of AD, and the neurochemical pathogenesis of AD. The research group is also working with other disorders, including multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and schizophrenia.

Klas Blomgren was born in Gothenburg and has a degree in medicine from the University of Gothenburg and a specialist qualification in paediatric medicine from the Queen Silvia Children´s Hospital in Gothenburg. He was awarded his PhD in 1994 at the University of Gothenburg and appointed reader in physiology in 2002. Since 1 December 2008 he has held the post of Adjunct Professor of Paediatrics in the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg.

Title of dissertation: Molecular Dynamics Study of Unimolecular Reaction Rates
Kim Bolton was born in Durban, South Africa in 1964. A degree of Master of Science was conferred on him at the University of Natal in Durban. He came to the University of Gothenburg as a postdoctoral fellow in 1991 and got his doctorate in 1995. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow between 1996 and 1997 at Wayne State University in the USA. He became a docent at the University of Gothenburg in 2000 and was appointed professor at the University College of Borås in 2006. His research is aimed at attaining a fundamental understanding of chemical reactions as well as the properties of various materials with the help of theoretical calculations and computer simulations. On 1 June 2007 he was appointed Guest Professor of Physical Chemisty at the Faculty of Science at the University of Gothenburg.
Boman Kalle - The Faculty of Fine Applied And Performing Arts - KALLE BOMAN Born: 1943 Kalle Boman was born in Stockholm and started work as a stage hand at Stockholms Stadsteater (Stockholm City Theatre) in 1962. He was employed as production assistant, editor and production manager at Europa Film from 1964 to 1970. Since 1971, he has been an independent producer. Over the years, he has worked on and managed projects with, for example, Bo Widerberg, Roy Andersson, Marie-Louise Ekman, Ruben Östlund and Ernst-Hugo Järegård. He has been politically active in film, with a strong desire to contribute to social debate and the position of image in social development. Last year, he worked on Blicken på Kopparmärra – ett konstnärligt forskningsprojekt kring filmens begreppsbildning, one of the few artistic research projects that received support from the Swedish Research Council during 2009. On 1 August 2009, he was appointed Adjunct Professor in Film Composition at the School of Film Directing.

Bondeson Nina – Faculty of Arts, School of Design and Crafts NINA BONDESON, born in Stockholm in 1953, was a student at the Royal University College of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 1983-1988. Pictorial art is a vehicle for narratives inhabited by the Incarcerated, Matrons, and Self-taught Linguists, who take part in all our harping about our longing and powerlessness. The practical production of art is in focus; the tools shift between needle and thread, brushes and computers. Born: 1945 Jon Brænne was born in Oslo and has studied and worked at the Directorate for Cultural Heritage in Oslo, where he was head of the Department for Conservation from 1982 to 1993. He has also been a scientific adviser and researcher at the Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research. He has worked on the conservation of various types of interiors, including paintings and tapestries in both ecclesiastical and secular buildings, and has experience from a number of European countries, as well as from China, Tanzania, Tibet and Zanzibar. He has also taught for many years at university level in Scandinavia and Italy. He has been appointed Visiting Professor of Painting Conservation at the Department of Conservation.

Helene Brembeck was born in Gothenburg in 1952. She got her doctorate in Ethnology at the University of Gothenburg in 1992. She has been employed as a university lecturer at the Department of Ethnology since 1995 and she became a Docent in Ethnology in 1998. Since 2001, she has worked as a researcher and project leader at the Centre for Consumer Science. On 1 November 2007 she was appointed Professor of Ethnology at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Gothenburg.

Karl Bruckmeier was born in Aufhausen-Nördlingen in Germany in 1952 and was awarded a degree of Sociology in 1977. He got his doctorate in 1986 at Freie Universität Berlin. He has done research and education in Sociology of the Environment and Human Ecology at Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, and Vrije Universiteit Brussel. From 1997 he has been working at the University of Gothenburg. On 1 June 2007 he was appointed Professor of Human Ecology at the Faculty of Social Science at the University of Gothenburg.
Brunnberg-Jonsäter Kerstin - Faculty of Social Sciences, Dept of Journalism and Mass Communication - Kerstin Brunnberg-Jonsäter qualified in journalism at the Institute of Journalism in Stockholm in 1967. She was an editor at the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet from 1968 to 1970, a reporter for Swedish National Television from 1970 to 1979. Since 1979 she has been at the Swedish National Radio where she has been a reporter, editorial secretary and editor-in-chief at Ekot and director of information, director of programming and CEO of Swedish National Radio. She was 2007 - 2009 member of the Board of the European Broadcasting Union. She has been Chair of the Swedish Arts Council since 2009. Since 1 September 2009 she has been Hjörne family Visiting Professor in Practical Journalism at the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication.

 Brunnström Lasse – Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, School of Design and Crafts LASSE BRUNNSTRÖM – born in Göteborg in 1948 – defended his thesis in 1981 in the history of art at Umeå university, Kiruna – ett samhällsbygge i sekelskiftets Sverige (Kiruna – Mining City from the Turn of the Century), and became associate professor at the same institution in 1991, professor in conservation at Göteborg University in 1997, director of the Röhsska Museum in 1998 and R&D director at the Administration of Cultural Affairs in Göteborg in 2000. In his research he reveals the aesthetic, cultural and historical values of technologies in books including Svensk industridesign – en 1900-talshistoria (Swedish Industrial Design – a 20th century history) (1997), Estetik & ingenjörskonst – den svenska vattenkraftens arkitekturhistoria (Aesthetics & Engineering – the Architectural History of Swedish Hydroelectric Power) (2001) and Telefonen – en designhistoria (The Telephone – a Design History) (2006).

Brännström Mats - The Sahlgrenska Academy, Institute of Clinical Sciences, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Mats Brännström, born 1958, completed his medical degree 1978 and received a doctorate in Physiology in 1988 at University of Gothenburg. The title of the thesis was Mechanisms of ovulation. He was appointed associate professor in Physiology in 1989 and undertook post doctoral training at University of Adelaide, Australia 1990-1993. He then trained in obstetrics and gynecology and became a specialist in this field in 1997 and associate professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Subspecialty training in Gynecologic Oncology was done at Royal Adelaide Hospital in 1999. He was appointed professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Uppsala University in 2002 and at University of Gothenburg in 2003. His research activities are mainly in ovarian physiology, ovarian cryopreservation, ovarian cancer and uterus transplantation.
