This is something you can help with!
A gift to Göteborg University might consist of cash, valuable documents, real estate or personal property. In conjunction with gifts or bequests there can be certain fiscal aspects to consider, which is why we recommend contact with a bank or firm of solicitors for information and advice.
If you would like to support Göteborg University with a gift, on receipt of the gift the University pays university value added tax, which is currently 8 percent of the value of the gift. The provision enables the University to deduct the value added tax (25 percent) that is added to the purchase invoice when the sum derived from the gift is used.
By writing a will you actively decide how you want to apportion your estate. It can also be advantageous from a tax point of view to write a will. If you do not have a will, the apportionment of your estate is regulated in accordance with the law. If you do not have any close relatives your assets accrue to the Swedish State Inheritance Fund.
As a private person you can transfer forthcoming share dividends as a gift to research projects at Göteborg University. You then avoid paying tax on the share profits (normally 30 percent). This means that for every hundred kronor in profit, 143 kronor goes on research. Please contact us for more information.
