CARL MARTIN ALLWOOD
Born: 1952
Thesis: Knowledge, technique and detection of errors in statistical problem solving
Carl Martin Allwood was born in Falköping and awarded his PhD at the University of Gothenburg in 1982. He was on the staff of the University of Gothenburg from 1974 to 1998 apart from four months in 1979 spent at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA and three months in 1980 at the University of California at San Diego, USA. In 1987 he was appointed reader. Between 1998 and 2008 he was professor of psychology at Lund University. He spent some time in 2005 as a guest researcher at NISTADS in New Delhi in India and the School of Management, Zeijiang University, China. Since 1 September 2008 he has been professor of psychology in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Gothenburg.
JAN ELIASSON
Born: 1940
Jan Eliasson was born in Gothenburg, matriculated from Hvitfeldtska gymnasiet in 1960 and was awarded a master’s degree in economics by the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg in 1965. He has had a long career in the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and served for instance in Germany, France, Zimbabwe and the USA. He was Sweden’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York 1988-1992, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations 1992-1994, Swedish State Secretary for Foreign Affairs 1994-2000, Ambassador to Washington 2000-2005 and Sweden’s Foreign Minister in 2006. He has also carried out humanitarian and mediation missions for the United Nations in Asia, the Balkans and Africa, most recently in Darfur/Sudan. Since 1 September 2008 he is a holder of the Torgny Segerstedt Visiting Professorship as guest professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Gothenburg.
GUNNAR FALKEMARK
Born: 1946
Thesis: Power, Theory and Value
Gunnar Falkemark was born in Gothenburg. After studying at the University of Gothenburg and Lund University he was awarded a PhD in political science in 1982. During the academic year of 1982-83 he was a guest researcher at Harvard University in the USA. Between 1986 and 1989 he held a postdoctoral research fellowship and was appointed in 1989 to a senior lectureship in political science at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Gothenburg.
BJÖRN HALLERÖD
Born: 1960
Thesis: Den svenska fattigdomen
Björn Halleröd was born on Orust and is a graduate of Umeå University, where he was also awarded his PhD in 1991. Between 1992 and 1993 he was a guest researcher at the Social Policy Research Centre, Sydney, Australia. In 1995 he was appointed reader in sociology and in 1999 professor of sociology at Umeå University. Between 2001 and 2006 he was also a member of the Swedish Research Council’s Scientific Council for Humanities and Social Sciences and vice chair of the council 2004-2006. Since 1 February 2009 he has been professor of sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Gothenburg.
MARTIN JÖNSSON
Born: 1964
Martin Jönsson was born in Laholm and graduated as a master of economics from Lund University in 1988. He has been working as a journalist since 1981 and is senior editor and deputy editor-in-chief of Svenska Dagbladet. He has also been a senior editor for Journalisten, Dagens Debatt, the Bible, Nöjesguiden, Civilekonomen and Svensk Export. He is an active participant in debates on public affairs. Since 1 September 2008 he has been guest professor in practical journalism at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Gothenburg.
HÅKAN THÖRN
Born: 1961
Thesis: Rörelser i det moderna: Politik, modernitet och kollektiv identitet i Europa 1789–1989/Modernitet, sociala rörelser och sociologi
[Movements in modernism: Politics, modernity and collective identity in Europe 1789-1989/Modernity, social movements and sociology]
Håkan Thörn was born in Gothenburg and received his bachelor’s degree in the history of ideas and learning from the University of Gothenburg in 1988, where in 1997 he was also awarded a PhD in sociology. Since then he has undertaken research into social movements and the globalisation of politics and has published a number of books on this theme. In 2003 he was a guest researcher at St. Antony´s College in Oxford. He is a member of the editorial committee of Ord & Bild. Since 1 February 2008 he has held an appointment as professor of sociology n the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Gothenburg.
