About Andreas Godsäter

I achieved a Master's degree in International Relations in 2004 and a PhD in Peace and Development Research in 2013, both at the School of Global Studies (SGS), University of Gothenburg. My PhD-thesis was about civil society regionalization in Southern Africa. At the moment I am a senior lecturer at SGS and also a senior research fellow at the Centre for the Study of Governance Innovation (GovInn), University of Pretoria. I am also a member of the global research group International Democracy Watch (IDW). My ambition is to combine research and teaching.

Areas of interest
My research interests concern regionalism, governance, civil society, democracy, development co-operation, climate- and environment issues and migration. I have done a number of field studies in Africa, which is my main geographical focus area.

Current research
Currently, I am engaged in research linked to inter-regional relations around the Atlantic, within an overall global research programme called Atlantic Future, financed by EU's Seventh Framework Programme. I am also planning for a new research project on climate- and environment related migration with a focus on Ethiopia and the EU.

Teaching and tutoring
I foremost teach within International Relations and convene and lecture on bachelor courses. Also, I teach within African Studies and the Bachelor Program in Global Studies as well as supervise bachelor and master students with their theses. Besides, I am the Subject Coordinator for International Relations with a special interest in pedagogical issues.
