About Niklas Rudbäck

I am a PhD-student in Arts Education, at the Academy of Music and Drama, Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts. My doctoral studies are financed by CUL's research school (CUL=Centre for Education Science and Teacher Research).

I am specializing in music education, and my thesis project is about how we learn to talk about music. More specifically, I am studying how students in a Swedish upper secondary music program learn music-theoretical concepts that are introduced in lessons in music theory and aural skills. I am interested in if and how practical musical knowing and concept development processes are interrelated, how music apprehension is mediated by linguistic tools, and how musical concepts become meaningfully related to concrete musical experiences.
