About Malin Weijmer

Area of research

My PhD-Project evolves around issues of participation in Swedish heritage planning and management. The aim of the research is to study participation as a political objective and how this is translated into and carried out in an official heritage practice. Additional aim is to study the ideological and institutional aspects of participation within the official heritage context. The project rests upon four case studies which all focus on the practice and action of participation and where heritage is dissonant and under negotiation. The research has the objective to understand which are the possibilities versus limits for participation within heritage management and planning and how this relates to questions of who is given agency to act and influence, what are the claiming of heritage and how can the cultural imaginary be understood as negotiable?
