About Jan Alm

Double Bass

Jan Alm, born 1955, studied double bass with Ferdinand Lipa, Göteborg Sweden and Klaus Stoll, Berlin.

Jan has been Assistant Principal of Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra since 1986. The same year he was appointed teacher of double bass at the University of Gothenburg, nowAcademy of Music and Drama. Jan has also been a visiting teacher in Yehudi Menuhin School and Royal Collage of Music in London, besides being part of yearly Bass Club courses in London since 1999. Jan Alm has composed music for double bass and is also the publisher of pedagogic material available at www.store.janalm.se Apart from teaching Double Bass Jan has seminars on orchestral music and chamber music as a regular part of his work with the University.
