The holding company at the University of Gothenburg - GU Holding - is one of the University’s wholly-owned holding companies that manages, finances and develops companies that have originated in the University of Gothenburg.

GU Holding is available to the University’s employees who want to have a business partner for their innovations or business ideas The holding company generates added value in commercial projects and companies through active support in developing technology, patents, organisations, marketing and business, as well as financing.

- We participate actively in our companies’ development and customise our inputs according to the requirements of each individual company. We package them and clarify them for future growth, as well as dispose of them at an appropriate occasion with the greatest possible return, says the chairman of GU Holding’s board, Margareta Wallin-Peterson, also the University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

The holding company is one of fourteen holding companies in Sweden that have acted, initially on behalf of the Department of Education, and subsequently for the respective institute of higher education and university. The result is that thus far during its 10 years of operations GU Holding has started up and financed over 25 new companies and a number of projects and represents a bridge to other major venture capitalists.

During these years GU Holdings has invested a total of SEK 47 million in its companies and the same amount of resources in the form of work developing the companies. In addition to GU Holdings investment, the companies have attracted a total of SEK 430 million in external venture capital, i.e. 9 times GU Holdings' input. These investments have taken them to a level where together they employ some 130 persons and have an overall turnover of approximately SEK 150 million.
