OPEN POSITIONS Postdoctorial fellow in biochemistry/ physical chemistry

Research and graduate education at the department of chemistry and molecular biology comprises a wide scientific field from the atomic and molecular levels all the way through cells to intact organisms. Much of the phenomena studied here impact on our natural environment and living systems. We participate in undergraduate programs in chemistry, molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, biology, marine sciences, and pharmacy.

Westenhoff’s research group, where this position is placed, has the goal to uncover structural dynamics of proteins and chemical reactions. The research is placed at the interface of biology, chemistry and physics. We develop new methods based on infrared spectroscopy and time-resolved X-ray scattering to achieve this goal.

Job assignments

The job assignments may consist of:

* Investigation into femto- and picosecond structural dynamics of small photochemicals by time-resolved WAXS at X-ray free electron laser sources.

* Simulation of the experiment, in particular a proof-of-principle study of correlation fluctuation WAXS for chemical reaction dynamics.

* Structural analysis of the experimental data by computational modelling.

In the project you will record and analyze time-resolved X-ray scattering data from free electron laser facilities, which report on the structural dynamics of chemical reactions.

Eligibility

To qualify as a postdoctoral fellow, the applicant must have completed a Swedish doctoral degree or must have a foreign degree corresponding to a Swedish doctoral degree.

Preference will be given to candidates who have been awarded the degree no more than three years before the application deadline and who have not held a post-doc position within the same or similar subject area at the University of Gothenburg for more than one year. Applicants with a degree obtained earlier than the stipulated three years may be preferred if special reasons exists. Special reasons in this context include, but are not limited to, leave due to illness and parental leave.

* Documented experience in any of the areas relevant to the project scientific programming, physical chemistry, biophysics are necessary.

* The ability to work independently on a research project are a merit.

* The ability to work effectively in a team are also a merit.
