OPEN POSITIONS Teaching assistant, one or more (the field of computing science, computer engineering, software engineering and interaction design)

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is strongly international, with approximately 240 employees from over 30 countries. The department is a fully integrated department with the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology as principals. The department offers courses in a broad range of subjects. During the spring semester 2018 the department offers around sixty courses on BSc- and MSc-level. Student involvement is an important part in this work. The department is now looking for teaching assistants for the spring semester of 2018 and in some cases for exam grading in connection to the re-exam week in August.

Job assignments

As a teaching assistant you will work with helping and supporting teachers with practical elements in the different courses. This could for example be lab and exercise tutoring, and help with lab and exam grading. You will have regular contact with the teachers about which elements and practical moments you can be of help within.

Qualifications

To be qualified for the position you are an active student at bachelor or master level, preferably studying in one of the institution’s BSc or MSc level programmes at the University of Gothenburg or Chalmers University of Technology. You should have completed relevant education at university level which is pertinent for the task. In order to be qualified for the position you should have good knowledge in the language(s) used in the course(s) you apply for, that is, English and/or Swedish, both spoken and written. In order to be qualified as teaching assistant for a course you should have passed either the same or a similar course. It is a merit to have completed related continuation courses. It is also a merit if you have experience of teaching and are skilled in instructing and helping people in a pedagogical way. It is a particularly strong merit if you have recently worked as a teaching assistant in the courses you want to assist, or similar courses.

Additional information

This is an intermittent employment where you as a teaching assistant are paid for the hours you work. The remuneration level is according to our regulations and will be paid per hour in arrears. The amount of working hours is individually set in a dialogue with the responsible teacher and director of studies. Since the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is a joint department the employment can be placed at the University of Gothenburg or the Chalmers University of Technology. We only accept applications in the manner described in the advertisement. If we offer you a shorter intermittent employment and you will be asked to work in courses at CSE, you will typically work in 1-2 courses per period. Our ambition is that your work as a teaching assistant should not interfere with your own studies.
