OPEN POSITIONS Associate Researcher

 The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell – what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.

The Institute is composed of the following five departments:

  • The Department of Infectious Diseases

  • The Department of Microbiology and Immunology

  • The Department of Pathology and Genetics

  • The Department of Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine

  • The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology

At present, the institute has about 350 employees and approximately 290 million SEK in total assets.

Job assignments

The candidate will work at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center, a center within the University of Gothenburg in close association with Sahlgrenska University Hospital. The center is part of a strategic research effort focused on cancer within the Sahlgrenska Academy and consists of a mixture of basic and clinical research with translational ambitions. A research assistant position is now advertised by Associate Professor Anders Stahlberg at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center. We are developing new approaches to detect cancer at an early stage using blood samples. In addition, we are working in projects that aim to increase our understanding of tumor initiation and development. Our projects are in close collaboration with other academic, health care and industrial partners. Within the project you will be working with clinical samples, experimental techniques and handle experimental data.


We are looking for an ambitious and service oriented team player with great interpersonal and organizational skills. Suitable background is an MSc in molecular biology / biomedical / biotechnology, or equivalent degree. Experience in cell culturing approaches and molecular techniques, especially approaches to analyze DNA, RNA and proteins is considered as a merit. Ability to work under pressure and in a team, organizational skills and good knowledge of English is essential. We are looking for an enthusiastic person, who combines technical expertise with good communication skills. A candidate should have a strong desire to help other researchers in their work, but also the motivation to work independently.


The employmnent is limited (temporary) 100% for the period 2018-01-08 to 2019-12-31 with placement at the Institute of biomedicin.
