OPEN POSITIONS Senior lecturer in psychology with a focus towards judgement and decision making

The Department of Psychology has around 160 employees, and conducts extensive research and education in interaction with society. The research conducted has been rated as excellent by international reviewers, and the number of students applying for programs and elective courses is very high. Due to upcoming retirement, the Department of Psychology is recruiting one or more senior lecturers in psychology with a focus towards judgement and decision-making

Psychology of judgment and decision-making

Duties and responsibilities

Duties will include teaching, research and interaction with society. The percentage of research and teaching is regulated individually based on local employment policy. Duties and responsibilities also include active participation in the further development of the department. Administrative and managerial tasks might also be included.

The work area is the psychology of judgement and decision-making. Duties consist mainly of teaching and tutoring at first and second cycle elective courses and programmes as well as contract education courses. Duties may also include course coordination. The position includes skills development and administration in accordance with the current working time agreement and local guidelines. As externally funded research is an important prerequisite for the department as well as for individual teachers' research, actively participating in the department's efforts to find external funding is also required.

Eligibility

Qualified for employment are those who have a PhD or equivalent scientific competence and have demonstrated good teaching skills. The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. Applicants must also have Pedagogical training for higher education, 15 credits or the equivalent, or complete this within one year from the time of employment. Applicants who do not master the Swedish language are expected to acquire language skills sufficient for carrying out the basic duties within two years.

Assessment

Applicants will be selected after an overall assessment of skills and potential to carry out and develop the duties and responsibilities described above. In the assessment, scientific and pedagogical skills will be given equal weight. In the assessment of scientific proficiency, particular emphasis will be given to research in the field ofjudgement and decision-making, and that scientific qualifications are up to date. Publication in international journals is desirable, as well as having received and currently hold external funding. Research could be basic or applied to its character or contain elements of both.

Experience and skills in academic teaching and supervision should be well documented and verified. Demonstrated ability to teach in English and writing teaching materials of high quality and the development of courses or training modules are meriting.

Furthermore, consideration will also be given to level of administrative skills, ability to develop and lead activities and staff in the university sector and the ability to interact with the surrounding society and to inform about research and development. In addition, personal qualities such as accuracy and flexibility, and proven ability to take responsibility as well as to cooperate with others.

The selection process may include interviews, sample lectures and reference checks. In interviews, the applicants will be given the opportunity to describe and develop their own approach to teaching and research in the field of judgement and decision-making, as well as their future role at the department. These factors will also be included as a basis for the assessment where appropriate.

Application procedure

Register your application electronically "Apply online". The applicant is responsible for ensuring that the application is complete and in accordance with the announcement, and that it is submitted on-line no later than the application deadline. Applications should be written in English or Swedish. The description of scientific and pedagogical activities to be attached to the application should be based on the University's appointments procedure and the Faculty of Social Sciences’ application of Employment arrangements for employing teaching staff at the University of Gothenburg (see link above). The application must include the following documents:

  • A personal letter that motivates your application and summarize your skills.
  • A list of the scientific and educational works referred to in the application. The applicant shall among these specify a maximum of 10 publications or other works as the 10 most important. These shall, numbered according to the publication list, be uploaded in full text as attachments in PDF format.
  • A brief summary of scientific, educational and administrative activities is to be reported. Documentation of scientific merits may include information about obtained research funds, if these have been received as principal or co-applicant, and the amount. Documentation of teaching experience can include certificates, course evaluations and qualitative reviews and assessments from the director of studies or equivalent. Qualifications should be supported by certified copies of diplomas, certificates and other documents referred to in PDF format.
  • A concise statement of the applicant's experience of cooperation with the surrounding society.
