Stakeholder Day: European Maritime Day 2012

The European Maritime Day is celebrated annually on 20 May since 2008. The purpose is to highlight the importance of the seas and oceans and the challenges facing maritime regions and sectors. Several events are organised across Europe and the main event is held in one place, in the form of a high level meeting and a stakeholder conference.

Marine spatial planning for ecosystem-based management: achievements and challenges requiring science-policy collaboration

Marine ecosystems present special conditions for planning and management. Further development is needed in relation to data collection, knowledge integration, and the management process.

Lecturer: 1. Charles Ehler (Ocean Visions): A global perspective on important challenges using MSP to implement EBM and achievements so far. 2. Ida Reuterswärd (Swedish Ministry of the Environment) and Jacek Zaucha (Maritime Institute Gdansk): Towards a good status of the marine environment through coherent MSP in the Baltic Sea region. 3. Andreas Kannen (Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht), and Laurence Mee (Scottish Association for Marine Science): Highlights from European research projects analysing MSP and EBM and developing tools. 4. Berit Pettersson (Swedish Authority for Marine and Water Management) and Ingela Isaksson (County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland): MSP in Sweden and experiences from INTERREG-collaboration across Skagerrak and Kattegatt.
