The Department of Political Science has an open climate which encourages involvement in broader societal debates. Research areas of specialization include elections, democracy, corruption, governance, globalization, environmental politics as well as European studies. The department houses research programs such as QoG institute, Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem), Governance and local development (GLD) and The Swedish Election Studies Program. The department offers education on all levels; undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate, carried out in both English and Swedish. We have a total of 1,400 students enrolled in our courses, and 140 people are employed at the Department. The Department is centrally located in the city of Gothenburg.

The Quality of Government (QoG) Institute is an independent research institute at the Department of Political Science, University of Gothenburg. The Institute conducts research on the importance of reliable, objective, non-corrupt, non-discriminatory and competent public institutions. The Institute is funded by external grants and engage currently around 25 scientists and graduate students. The QoG Institute was founded in 2004 by Professors Sören Holmberg and Bo Rothstein and is led now by Dr Marcia Grimes. Dr. Andreas Bågenholm is the Programme Supervisor for the QoG Institute. One of the QoG institution's objectives is to compile country comparative data sets containing various measures of quality of governance but also the data in other relevant disciplines may be related to the quality of governance. These data sets are based on available country comparative data, and individual data are aggregated to the country level.


The Quality of Government (QoG) Institute is seeking one or more Database Supervisor.

Job assignments

The main job assignments includes:

• Collect, assemble, and maintain datasets for quantitative analysis within STATA.
• Monitor, collect and analyze new data from research organizations, academic journals, and reports.
• Assisting senior researchers with quantitative data analysis and answering data related questions. • Create tables, graphs and other visualizations to complement presentations and published material.
• Working together with the program’s web site coordinator to oversee the updates of the data visualization tools and web pages.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with great skill and capacity to perform the duties described above. You must have a master's degree in political science or other relevant social science disciplines. You should have good knowledge of statistical methods and experience with data processing in Stata. Knowledge of R and LaTeX is desirable.

To be successful in this position it is required that you are analytical, accurate, and a good problem solver. You have excellent time management skills, efficiency and high skills to communicate and cooperate with a large, diverse and versatile team. Good knowledge of English is required in both spoken and written language.

Previous experience of working in research projects, especially with quantitative focus, is desirable. It is also desirable with some theoretical understanding of QoG related research, but it is not required.
