History of philosophy
The holder of the appointment will be a member of the research project ‘The Medieval Reception of Aristotle’s Topics’, led by Dr. Ana María Mora-Márquez and funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation.
The project studies the non-formal aspects of Aristotelian logic both in Aristotle’s Topics and in its medieval reception (c.1250 – c.1350).

The holder of the appointment is expected to conduct research focusing on issues related to the non-formal aspects of Aristotelian logic as found in Aristotle's Topics and its medieval reception.
Moreover, the holder of the position is expected to edit the Latin anonymous commentary on the Topics, extant in the manuscript Firenze, BNC Conv. Soppr. B.4. 1618, ff. 95a-151b.
Hence, other than reading Latin and Ancient Greek, skills in reading and editing texts from Latin manuscript sources are required. The holder of the appointment will work in close collaboration with the project's PI, Dr. Mora-Márquez. Applicants should enclose a research plan with their application.
Opportunities for teaching will be offered according to the department's needs and the holder's area of expertise. The holder of the appointment is expected to carry out her/his research in Gothenburg and to participate actively in the project's scientific activities, as well as to be an active member of the FLoV environment.
Eligible for the position are those with a PhD in medieval philosophy, medieval studies or equivalent.
We focus on candidates with a PhD not older than seven years from the application’s deadline. Scholarly proficiency is the most important basis for assessment. In the assessment of scholarly proficiency, special attention will be given to the applicant's PhD thesis and other publications as well as to her/his research plan.
The applicant's own research plan must demonstrate a close affinity with the research project's stated aims.
The candidate must demonstrate a sound grasp of Aristotelian logic, of its development in the Latin Middle Ages and of the relevant philosophical issues. She/he must be able to combine a sound philosophical approach to the materials with a meticulous philological one.
Good organizational, communicative, and social skills are important criteria in the assessment of candidates. The recruitment process may also include an interview in its final stages.
