Specific subject description

The candidate´s specific research is expected to enhance and complement areas of research carried out by the Logic group within the Department of Philosophy, Linguistics and Theory of Science. These areas include, but are not limited to: metamathematics of arithmetical and set-theoretical systems, interpretability theory, axiomatic theories of truth, dependence logic, and logical constants.

Job assignments

The postdoctor is expected to conduct individual research in Logic, as well as in collaboration with members of the Logic group, and to participate in the organization of seminars, workshops, and conferences held by the department. Additional duties may include mentoring graduate students, course design, and/or teaching-related activities; supplementary duties will not exceed 20% of the position´s responsibilities.

The holder of the position is expected to carry out the vast majority of her/his research in Gothenburg and to actively participate in the research group's workshops, seminars, and conferences.


A doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor. The doctoral thesis should be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since the postdoctor position is designed to give new PhDs the opportunity to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, priority will be given to those whose doctoral degree was granted within 3 years of the application closing date.

Scientific proficiency is the most important criterion for assessment, and special attention will be given to the applicant's PhD thesis and other publications, and to her/his research plan. Priority will be given to applicants whose research plan and prior work strengthen the research group's overall approach. The candidate should provide contact information for two academics familiar with the research work of the applicant, for further contact. The recruitment process may also include an interview in its final stages.
