The Faculty of Social Sciences is home to internationally renowned research. The research at the Faculty is based on independent and curiosity-oriented basic research, yet it is also central to the field of the Social Sciences that research is made practically useful. The Faculty s most important thematic research areas are democracy and governance, working life and social relations, decision making and memory, welfare and social analysis, and global change. To further strengthen the Faculty’ research activities, we are now looking for four new colleagues.

The postdoctoral fellows will work at one of the Faculty s Departments. For information about the Departments, go to www.samfak.gu.se.
The responsibilities consist mainly of own research. Successful applicants will be expected to develop their own ideas and communicate their scientific results both orally and in writing. Teaching and supervision of students may be required (a maximum of 20% of the total work time). Successful applicants will also be expected to actively contribute to the research environment at the Department. The Faculty of Social Sciences strives to maintain a clearly international research profile; thus, postdoctoral fellows are expected to communicate their research internationally.
To qualify as a postdoctoral fellow, the applicant must have completed a doctoral degree in a subject area relevant to the position in question, or must have a foreign degree corresponding to a doctoral degree in a subject area relevant to the position. Preference will be given to candidates who have been awarded the degree no more than three years before the application deadline and who have not held a post-doc position within the same or similar subject area at the University of Gothenburg for more than one year. Applicants with a degree obtained earlier than the stipulated three years may be preferred if special reasons exist. Special reasons in this context include, but are not limited to, leave due to illness and parental leave.
The applicant must have finished their PhD-degree by the end of the application deadline.
Scientific proficiency, within the relevant subject area, is the most important ground for applicant assessment. In the assessment of scientific proficiency, special attention will be given to the applicant’s doctoral thesis and other publications. Scientific proficiency is also documented by publications in peer-reviewed journals. The applicant’s research plan is also important in the assessment process, yet is secondary to scientific proficiency.
Personal circumstances (such as parental leave) will be considered in the assessment of qualifications, and should, if applicable, be indicated in connection with the listing of qualifications and experience.
