Strategies for Research and Education

The Board of the University of Gothenburg has established strategies for research and education designed to make the University more competitive within research. Five profile areas and eight areas of priority have been identified.

Together with the Faculties, the management of the University of Gothenburg has put together research and education strategies for the period 2009 to 2012. In the strategies, a number of profile areas which the University wants to give priority to have been identified within research and education.

Particular emphasis is to be given to five profile areas which cross faculty boundaries:

  • Health
  • Culture
  • Environment
  • Democracy and social development
  • Knowledge formation and learning

Priority research areas

According to the strategies, the following research areas are also to be given priority. The first four areas are already strong fields of research with a long tradition and excellent quality. The remaining four have the prerequisites to develop into strong areas.

1. Patient-centred research on heart and vascular disease including obesity, biomaterial and vaccine

2. Learning

3. Language technology

4. Democracy and opinion

5. Marine ecology

6. Cultural heritage

7. Globalisation

8. Culture and health
