The University of Gothenburg must be open to all students – regardless of background. Widening participation is a vital strategy to ensure fair & equal access to the University for underrepresented groups and to motivate more individuals in the underrepresented groups to apply for studies at the University. The strategic goal of widening participation also includes supportive measures aimed towards all students to ensure equal possibilities throughout their studies.
The strategic goal of the University of Gothenburg to strengthen recruitment, participation and follow-up management includes developing alternative forms of recruitment and selection to increase the number of students from underrepresented groups. The students’ work environment and establishment in the labour market is systematically and repeatedly followed up and has caused the University to implement a number of measures. Strengthened recruitment can be exemplified by broad representation at education fairs, acceptance of upper secondary study visits and internships. Participation and follow-up management are strengthened through the University-wide student services programme offering language support, mentorship and introductory seminars. The student services programme is open and available to all students.
Workgroups have discussed and reported alternative selection forms. A large survey of the student work environment has been conducted and evaluated, and the University continuously maintain and develop contact with labour market representatives to ensure good transition for students from all educational fields.
