Health

Health is a profile area rooted in the medical research at the Sahlgrenska Academy. The Gothenburg tradition implies close ties between health research, clinical work and society. The Sahlgrenska University Hospital is the largest hospital in Northern Europe, and the closeness between research and actual patient care that this facilitates is a distinctive feature of the University of Gothenburg.

Culture

The University of Gothenburg has Northern Europe’s largest faculty of fine, applied and performing arts that includes all art forms (except dance) and that works in close cooperation with other faculties. This has resulted in strong research and education in the intersection between the cultural sciences and the arts.

Environment

Environment represents a strong Gothenburg tradition – about 40 percent of Sweden’s total research in environmental science can be linked to the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology.

Democracy and Social Development

Democracy and Social Development is a profile area that involves mainly the social sciences and the School of Business, Economics and Law but also the humanities. The University of Gothenburg is home to several national functions within the area.

Knowledge Formation and Learning

Knowledge Formation and Learning is a very strong research environment at the University of Gothenburg, and has in recent years received extensive national attention and significant research funding.
