An increasing number of international students choose to come to Gothenburg as independent students, i.e. outside an exchange programme. Many students find Gothenburg and its university very cosmopolitan. Just about all Swedes speak English, which makes it easy to melt in as an international student. It also makes things simpler for independent students who have to organise somewhere to live and other practical matters.
At the University of Gothenburg you can choose from about 110 programmes and courses that are held in English. Most of the programmes are at Master’s Level. Read more under the heading Programmes and courses in English. Under Application procedure you will find instructions about how to apply.
As an independent student you have to look after all the practical aspects of your stay in Sweden yourself. In principle you apply on the same conditions as Swedish students. However, help and advice are available. Under the heading Preparation you can read about how you can prepare yourself for your studies at the University of Gothenburg.
