BioEnv seminar: "Low nutrients, high species richness: what’s the link?"
Science and Information Technology
Lunch seminar with Tony Verboom, professor in botany, Department of biological and environmental sciences
Lunch seminar with Tony Verboom, professor in botany, Department of biological and environmental sciences
Tony Verboom is a relatively new professor in botany and shares his time between the University and the botanical garden in Gothenburg.
In his talk Tony will introduce the richness of the Cape flora of South Africa, focusing on fynbos, a megadiverse, sclerophyll vegetation type which associates with some of the nutritionally poorest soils on Earth. Although he will touch on recent work exploring a range of hypotheses, focus here is on exploring the link between high species richness and critically low soil fertility.
